It was moving day again. These are the days when family stress is at an all time high and today we had to leave our apartment at 7 am to catch our 8 am bus to Zagreb. Did we take a taxi? Nope, the Vienna subway has been so quick, reliable and speedy we lugged our bags (once again) to the subway and caught two trains to get to the bus station.
We barely made it. We stood on a long line to show our passports (first time since arriving in Zurich back on July 19), threw our suitcases on the trailer hitched to the bus and jumped on board. The trip wasn't bad at all the ride lasted just over 5 hours with stops to check passports - three more times.
We collected our rental car and headed south to Plitvicka Lakes - the Yosemite of Croatia. It is about a three hour drive where we witnessed crazy drivers, quaint towns and signs advertising cooked. jack rabbits. (We saw a live on turning on a spit turning slowly in circles.)
We arrived at Plitvicka, Echo Gardens a resort right next to the park in the late afternoon and was greeted by Sylvia our hostess. She is adorable with great English but a heavy accent. (Gary's understanding of what she is saying is correct about 36 percent of the time.)
The cabins are adorable and the grounds are lovely but soaked - it has been a rainy summer again and colder than any day in Norway.
Dinner was served a few hours later and We feasted on trout and pig (also cooked on the turning spicket) on the park like grounds outside our cabin. Kids are glad to be out of the city and I am excited to try another beer. :)
